The leading Air Bed manufacturer spends about $40 Million a year in marketing and advertising to get consumers to strongly consider their product. It only makes sense to venture that the cost for this advertising is built into the cost of their mattress. Consider this: an Air Bed is really made up of a few necessary components, which include the air bladder, a pump, some foam rails around the air bladder to help support it and provide shape, the outer quilted top, and a remote control. Basically, 5 ingredients. We're not talking about a car, here, right? We've been in the specialty bedding business for 15 years, and spent more than 2 years researching and developing our Air Bed systems. In the end, we were astonished at how overpriced, overrated, and over-built most Air Beds are. To make matters worse, most of them are just flat out uncomfortable and uninviting. We wanted to find out what would possess an educated consumer to spend $4000 on an Air Bed, especially when the gimmick was the idea that every person had a magical number that would mysteriously provide them with an incredible night's sleep. The truth is, having sold the leading brand of memory foam mattress for several years, we understood perfectly well that big companies want the retailer to push the sizzle rather than the steak. Our goal was to research Air Beds, approach the design of our own model with more of an engineering and comfort mind set rather than a promotional one, and offer up a really great Air Bed with enough features to make it extraordinarily comfortable but practical, at an affordable price. Bottom line, we wanted to create a mattress with enough "wow" factor that you couldn't wait to climb into at night…offered up at a price that will make you sleep soundly. We also wanted to be able to back up the product with both a desirable return policy and a solid warranty. You'll get everything you want from an Air Bed, including the dual adjustability (on Queen, King, and California King models), a luxurious, buoyant sensation, with great, therapeutic support and pressure point reduction qualities, and best of all, you can use your existing box springs or foundations! Read more to learn about who we are, everything you really need to know about buying a fantastic air bed, and what we have to offer…we think you'll find that our new Habitat Ascend® Air Bed System is the most comfortable Air Bed you'll ever sleep on, providing restorative, rejuvenating, deep sleep! Watch our videos, too, and get some great insight into how we build our bed...from the ground up. You'll get an unbeatable price, a full 180 day trial period, a solid 20 Year Factory Warranty, Great Customer Service from a dedicated company who uses the products we sell, and as our way of saying thanks, receive our medical grade mattress protector that waterproofs and protects your air bed, an $89 value, absolutely free! Shipping is also included in our price, and there is no sales tax if you do not live in Louisiana. How We Designed The Habitat Ascend® Air Bed SystemThe Bladder And The Pump: Keeping It Simple, Using Quality Components
We spent a lot of time studying the air bladders which are of course, the heart of an air bed, and discovered that there are a few different materials used in their fabrication, including Natural Rubber, PVC (polyvinylchloride, a strong plastic used for plumbing pipes, etc.), Urethane (more or less, synthetic plasticized rubber), and Nylon. We spoke with manufacturers, inflated samples, attended trade shows, and listened to consumers, to try and understand which air bladders worked the best. Getting right to the point, the most comfortable air bladder, in our opinion, is made from fabric backed vulcanized rubber. While many competing air bed manufacturers tout urethane, nylon, and PVC as being the strongest state of the art materials, as well as the most supportive and "clinically beneficial", when we tested them side by side, we confirmed what leading brand manufacturers already knew. Vulcanized natural rubber bladders, with a tightly woven fabric backing for structural support, felt more elastic, and offered a far more giving and cushiony feel, while still being resilient, not bottoming out, and provided the best weight distribution and pressure point reduction, the essence of buying an air bed in the first place. Quite honestly, we found nylon and urethane bladders to be rock hard, especially when filled to firmer settings. PVC air bladders also had very little give or yielding elasticity at firmer settings. Further, when we tested nylon/urethane and PVC bladders at lower, supposedly softer settings, they quickly became mushy and bottomed out, whereas the vulcanized rubber bladders still felt supportive and elastic, without the sensation that you were falling through the bottom of your bed. Vulcanized rubber air bladders clearly were superior in comfort and support than any other material available. In fact, we tested several nylon/urethane bladder combinations and were dumbfounded as to how anyone could find them even remotely comfortable! Another consideration when shopping for air beds that can be confusing is the concept of "multiple air chambers" and "baffling". We test drove numerous air bladders with both single and multiple chambers and didn't notice much of a difference, especially on bladders made from a nylon and urethane combination. When filled to proper pressure offering a good, supportive level of comfort, it was really hard to tell the difference. Quickly we learned that, to buy a really good air bed, you did not have to spend as much time laboring over multi-chambered bladders and baffles vs. single chambered, less complex bladders. Also, it's important to remember that the fewer baffles there are in an air bed bladder, the less adhesive materials will be used at the seams and along surface edges, which means less likelihood of leaks down the road. Admittedly though, we found that some baffling is a good thing, since it helps distribute air more evenly throughout the bladder. The vulcanized rubber bladders we tested and ultimately chose to use in our model seemed to feel more uniformly supportive through the entire range of pressure, both at lower, "softer" settings, as well as higher, "firmer" settings. For example, whether you sat on the edge of the bladder, or laid on your side, we observed that air is more effectively distributed to enable the air bladder to maintain its shape and elasticity. This is accomplished by building in very simple gussets that run from head to foot in the air bladders, keeping the bladders from expanding vertically when filled, to maintain the shape of the air bladder, so that you don't end up rolling to the center or outside of the mattress. These gussets also act as a simplistic baffling system, allowing air to be uniformly transferred as you change position while on the mattress. Bottom line, our simplistically designed air bladders provide you with all of the benefit of more complex, over-built bladders that run a higher risk of failure down the road. The next component of an air bed to understand and to figure out was the pump, as well as the remote control. After all, unless you crack a pump open, and start disassembling it, they all appear to be the same. And in today's marketplace, there is a lot of truth to that. Most companies seem to have robust pumps, since pump complaints involving leaky valves and fittings are something air bed manufacturers quickly have figured out and addressed over the last several years. The key things to look for: quick disconnect fittings, which make it easy to setup and replace/switch out pumps, well muffled or quieter pumps (even the best sound dampened pumps make a slightly desirable humming sound which can't be avoided, however), and a long connection cord. A UL listed pump is a requirement, and we liked the idea of a remote pump, not sandwiched inside the bed where it can overheat, and it should be accessible, should you ever have to replace it. Most of the folks we discussed this with agreed, saying that a pump should be freestanding under the bed, where it can properly move air and obtain good ventilation. With our Habitat Ascend® Air Bed System, we use sturdy quick disconnect fittings on all connections to the pump, with marine rated O-ring gaskets...so when you pump up your bed, it stays inflated. And, we use a pump that can be discreetly tucked under the head end of your bed, so it's out of sight. It's almost mesmerizing humming sound is not disturbing or alarming, unlike other brands we tested, some of which sounded as loud as a Hoover upright vacuum cleaner. The Remote Control: Simple, Digital Design...Hard Wired, No Batteries, Won't Get Lost! As far as the remote control is concerned, we learned that much of the marketing hype of leading manufacturers was centered around the mysterious and magical nature of the number which shows up on the digital screen on the remote control as you pump up or deflate the air bed. But, we sat back and scratched our heads at this one...I mean, you're not measuring your blood pressure here, are you? Why not pump the mattress up until it felt comfortable, then, if your mood changes, either pump it up some more, or deflate the thing? At first we thought it might be an unnecessary frill, but it pays to do your homework. Customers who buy the leading brand enjoy the digital remote, and like the idea of having a point of reference when using the programmable memory feature. And if you can pay less for the same thing, why not have the bells and whistles as well? Our model includes a very simplistic, straightforward hard wired remote control that you won't lose, with an easy to read digital readout along with a memory feature. We also considered whether wireless remotes were practical, but we found that, in addition to losing remote controls that aren't attached, wireless remotes often have lag times when inflating or deflating, and don't operate in real time, and this annoyed many users we spoke with. Also, you never need to change batteries. A simplistic wired remote saves you money, and it's less likely to fail. Our hard wired remote control is attached to a high capacity, free standing, quiet pump with quick disconnect fittings, which is UL listed and has a sturdy power cord. We love the quick disconnect fittings, since they make assembly and disassembly, in case you have to move the bed, a snap. Once filled, the air bladders in the Ascend® Air Bed will stay inflated until you operate the remote control to either firm up or soften the bed. Siderails And Perimeter Support Foam- The Hidden Secret To A Great Air Bed One of the inherent design flaws of most air beds, including the leading brand sold in the U.S., is the tendency for an air bed to "bow out", or flex outward on the sides, when weight is applied to the bed, especially near the center, where the two air chambers meet. This results in a "caving in" or sinking sensation, and is a common complaint with customers. We became keenly aware of this problem in our research. It turns out that it's easy to fix, and eliminates the use of so-called "I-Beam" supports which must be added to the bed down the middle of certain models to help correct the problem. Incredibly, the leading brand and other manufacturers actually claim that this "I-Beam" is really an added feature to help "support and distribute" weight, when in reality it is a "band-aid" designed to mask a design flaw. At lower, softer settings, an I-Beam becomes painfully obvious, as air pressure in the bladders causes them to sink lower than the I-Beam and surrounding perimeter rails. The solution: a unique, patented, perimeter support rail, which goes around the entire bed. Since our air bed uses a softer, vulcanized rubber bladder at the edge, where the air bladder meets the foam side rails, there is no discernible transition between bladder and foam side rail, which creates a smooth continuous feel all the way around the perimeter. This quality is not found in other manufacturer's air beds and is also a common complaint with leading brand customers. In addition, to prevent separation of the bladders and the resulting "caved in" sensation in the middle of the Air Bed, the side support rails we used in our unique design are connected head to foot and side to side with a heavy piece of fabric, which prevents the rails from bowing outward, eliminating the sinking and caving feeling. The tension created between opposite side rails by the connecting fabric layer eliminates the bowing problem, and . It's What's Inside That Makes Our Air Bed Worlds Apart…And Makes It Astonishingly Comfortable Since we've been in the bedding business for 15 years, we know what it takes to create a great "finished feel" when it comes to designing a mattress. It's no different with an Air Bed, because the right chemistry of materials immediately above the air bladder can greatly accentuate and compliment the overall perception of the mattress, greatly enhancing the adjustability factor offered by the air bladders. If the quality of the materials on top of the air bladder is inadequate, then you're not taking advantage of the cumulative effect of all of the components of the mattress, which should be wonderfully comfortable and buoyant, especially with an air bed, with a great range of adjustability. The quality of the substrate materials used in our support layers under the quilted top was absolutely important, and in the end, is what makes our Air Bed amazingly comfortable. Skimping on the quality of our foam support layers was something just not in our nature. We wanted to make sure, for example, that our Air Bed, which features a visco-elastic memory foam layer, had just the right kind of memory foam, so we utilize a 2" piece of 3.5 lb. density material, which is not excessively firm, but provides a nice cushy and inviting feel while offering excellent pressure point reduction and weight distribution qualities. It is also a higher quality variety of memory foam, and will not bottom out or pack down like cheaper memory foam, such as the kind used in topper pads sold in big box retail stores. Our memory foam layer is immediately beneath our quilted top section so that it is close to your body, where it will offer the most benefit, since memory foam performs best when not buried deep within a mattress. We also knew that you can't just toss in a layer of memory foam and expect an Air Bed to take your breath away, or make you sigh in delight. For additional support and cushiness, we positioned our memory foam layer right on top of a fabulous layer of 2" Natural Latex, which adds an element of "springiness" and "cush factor" to the Air Bed, and quite honestly, is what makes our Air Bed so completely different from any other mattress. Our Air Bed is livelier, more responsive, resists packing down, and keeps you on top of the bed, rather than feeling like you've been swallowed whole by your mattress. Beneath the Natural Latex layer, we also built in a layer of soft, yet supportive, convoluted high density fingertip foam, which compliments the adjustability element of the air bladders located right below, and adds a sense of fullness and mass to the accumulated effect of all of our support ingredients. You even have the option of switching out the layers of memory foam and Natural Latex, if you choose, to alter the feel of the mattress. If you wanted the air bed to be slightly softer, you can unzip the top, peel back the outer quilted top and place the Natural Latex layer above the memory foam layer for a softer feel, but if you prefer a more dampened, supportive and less reactive sensation, you can leave the memory foam layer right up top. Lets not forget the icing on the cake, our quilted top cover, which, as we describe in our videos on this page, tops off the "cumulative effect" created by all of our foam layers working in concert with our air bladder system to provide the astonishing comfort offered only by our unique design. Best of all, the quilted top on the Habitat Ascend® Air Bed System is made using hypoallergenic Hollofil® spun polyester which offers superior air distribution and ventilation, which keeps the mattress cool, and since the fiber is coil shaped, the material resists packing down and rutting, and will retain its loft for decades to come. We found it so wonderfully soft and inviting, that we hated to put a sheet over it! You will experience the rejuvenating and buoyant, supportive qualities of sleeping on air, as well as effective weight distribution and pressure point reduction, but with an amazingly comfortable, "cushy" finished feel, without the mushy, caved in, or bottoming out sensation found in most other Air Beds available in the marketplace today. We Back Up Our Habitat Ascend® Air Bed System With An Unbeatable, No Questions Asked 180 day Trial and 20 Year Manufacturer's Prorated Warranty We spent almost two years researching various suppliers and manufacturers of Air Bed components to find what we believed was the most seasoned and driven company in the industry to custom build our Habitat Ascend® Air Bed System. We wanted to work with a company that was grounded in the floatation bedding industry, meaning that their focus was more on engineering and materials than promotion and marketing. We discovered a company called U.S. WaterMattress, Inc., a business with a history of innovation in flotation bed systems, with a tremendous eye for detail and quality engineering and workmanship. The bed designers at U.S. WaterMattress, Inc., worked with our concept to develop an innovative one box packaging system, and engineered a modular, easy to assemble Air Bed that incorporates our memory foam and comfort foam layers, and builds on the concept of the complementary effect of all the bed components, to create a bed that can literally meet everyone's needs. Your Habitat Ascend® Air Bed System arrives in a box with U.S. WaterMattress markings, the signature of quality of an Air Bed manufactured by experts in air and water flotation sleep systems We are amazed every day how many couples, who have completely different sleep surface requirements, can come together on our bed with great results, due to its unique design, largely because of the tremendous adjustability using our digital remote system. Our bedding engineers were eager to build the unique Ascend® Air Bed system we had designed and were able to use materials that we believe are even superior to those found in other manufacturer's Air Beds, including the leading brand's top of the line model, which literally costs almost twice as much as our bed. Our Habitat Ascend® Air Bed System, in fact, is only slightly more expensive than the leading brand's middle of the road model, which does not have a layer of memory foam, and does not have a layer of natural latex! We like the fact that cutting edge technology can be accessible to our customers at a reasonable price using the best materials available, and we are proud to offer our "custom crafted" air bed to you. The Habitat Ascend® Air Bed System, available only through our web site, is not available in retail stores anywhere. Since we ship factory direct only, we can offer the extended 180 day trial period, as well as absolutely free shipping. Our Habitat Ascend® Air Bed System features dual hardwired remotes that you will never lose, and a cutting edge fabric backed vulcanized rubber air bladder system that is the most durable in the industry, offering a great range of adjustability from very soft, to highly firm. We use the highest quality memory foam, Natural Latex, and support foam materials that are available in the bedding industry today. You also get a wonderfully comfortable quilted top casing which meets all current FR 1633 Federal Fire Safety Regulations, and a solid 20 year Manufacturer's Prorated Warranty. But best of all, we're so confident that you will be completely satisfied with our air bed system, that we offer a 180 day no questions asked, money back trial period. If you don't like it for any reason, you can return the bed and receive a full refund less a modest $75 return shipping charge. Habitat Ascend® Air Bed System With 2" Memory Foam Layer And 2" Natural Latex Layer, With Premium Quilted Top Cover
Features:
Why Buy Your Air Bed From Habitat Furnishings Rather Than Sticking With the "Leading Brand"? It's a fair question, and we know we have to really make it worth your while to give our Habitat Ascend® Air Bed System a try rather than sticking with the tried and true choice of the leading brand. If you play it safe and go with the best selling leading brand's bed (the middle of the road 5000 Model), you will end up with a simplistic, basic air bed that will run you about $1600. for a Queen, dual chambered model. For your $1600. you will get the dual wired remotes, a convoluted foam top, and a fairly decent pump. But you won't get a Memory Foam comfort layer, and you won't get a layer of Natural Latex for your $1600. In fact, you won't even get a layer of memory foam from the leading manufacturer unless you pay an additional $1500+ and upgrade to their top of the line model, and that does not include our incredible layer of Natural Latex!! The leading brand doesn't even offer a bed option with Natural Latex… You shouldn't have to pay through the nose for comfort. And since we don't have the huge overhead or enormous advertising costs of the leading brand, we set out to prove you can put together a reasonably priced Air Bed system, even with a wonderful layer memory foam and a layer of incredibly responsive and supportive Natural Latex, that has every bit of the quality and workmanship of any comparable Air Bed in today's marketplace, including the Leading Brand. In fact, we believe our Air Bed is superior in every way, since each and every component has been well thought out and chosen, with quality of the materials being our watchwords. We designed an Air Bed System based on 15 years of experience in the specialty bedding business, listening to our customers, designing and building an air bed that we would sleep on ourselves, the end result being an adjustable Air Bed system that almost everyone will find astonishingly comfortable, offering energizing, replenishing sleep. We've been in the trenches, operating retail stores for years, listening to what people want and dream of when asked "What would you like your mattress to feel like, if you could design it? We built an Air Bed that we believe is based on decades of seasoned experience. We've done the research for you…so you don't have to. Bottom line - now you don't have to make a choice between important comfort features and price. The Habitat Ascend® Air Bed System incorporates all of the best features of the most premium, high end Air Beds - including state of the art fabric back vulcanized rubber air bladders, an industry proven, reliable digital remote system, and an air pump that will withstand the test of time, even under heavy, constant use-for decades. And because of our "factory direct to consumer" pricing structure, we can offer it with a High End 2" layer of 3.5 lb density memory foam layer and a Premium 2" layer of Natural Latex, for just a little bit more than you would pay for the leading brand's best selling, fairly basic air bed model, which does not include all of our features. For example, our price for a Queen Habitat Ascend® Air Bed System with the our 2" Memory Foam Layer and 2" Natural Latex Layer is $1899. That's only a few hundred dollars more than the leading brand's biggest selling basic model, and almost half the price of their high end model. And we're going to deliver to you a fully loaded, amazing Air Bed. And here's the best part - with our 180 day, no questions asked, money back guarantee, the only risk you will take to try out our incredibly comfortable air bed system is the $75 return fee if you find it just doesn't suit you. This is an unheard of money back guarantee in the air bed industry, and just shows how much we believe our system. And since we have an unblemished record of customer service (we are member of the BBB Online and have never had a customer complaint and also are a 5 Star Shopping.com Trusted Store), you can be sure that your purchase will be hassle free from start to finish.
